The Acting Director-General, Industrial Training Fund, Mr Dickson Onuoha has said the country’s quest to become one of the most industrialised nation by 2020 may not be achieved without the development of technical and vocational skills.
He said this in Abuja during the inspection of the ITF Model Skills Training Centre by the National Board for Technical Education.
He said given the Federal Government’s desire for rapid industrialisation and development, the role of technical and vocational skills training was vital in the achievement of this objective.
He said, “Nigeria is in a hurry to join Brazil among the committee of industrialised economies of the world in 2020, it is important to note that Brazil attained its current feat of industrialisation through research and skills development.
“Given Nigeria’s desire and passion for rapid industrialisation and development, the Brazilian model presents some lessons of worthy emulation by Nigeria.
“If nothing at all, no country can industrialise and develop without technical and vocational skills. Therefore, for Nigeria to industrialise and develop, technical and vocational skills’ training is key.”
He said the accreditation of the MSTC by the NBTE would reposition the centre towards achieving the developmental goals of the government in the area of skills’ acquisition.
